The short answer is that Windows Explorer does not sort them alpha numerically. Suffice to say that SharePoint is actually doing the job correctly.
This is a refreshing discovery. Let's embrace it rather than look for a workaround to recreate bad behaviour. J Your simplest solution is to name your files properly - ie. A.01, A.02 or A.001, A.002...
