I don't know about everyone else, but so far what I've seen of the BDC
looks much like what could be done through data views using Front Page
2003. I'm sure it does more than that (I've heard it being used to
extend the user profile import process for instance), but I think it is
probably quite misunderstood still. For instance, I remember reading
that it was capable of supporting bi-directional updates ... is that
true, and if so, what are the constraints to this? Otherwise, surely
something that is just read-only querying tool doesn't constitute
"Business Data Connectivity" ...
I work predominantly with Microsoft ILM, and would like to better
understand where a BDC approach is favourable to an ILM-driven
provisioning/synchronisation approach. I prescribe to a "horses for
courses" approach with these things, and what I am looking for is an
honest assessment and greater understanding of its strengths and
weaknesses over the alternatives (which would also include BizTalk).
I would like to see some practical real-world examples of how it meets
real business requirements, and is not just a sexy feature that is
another "solution waiting to find a problem".
Cheers
Bob

Hope to be there, budget permitting.

I don't know how advanced the presentation is going to be, but for what
ive done so far I have done everything by hand. So would be keen to see
how easy the tools are that were released recently to create the bdc
apps using the gui.

Perhaps some possible integration with dynamics sl/crm or similar would
be useful also and maybe some things that is out of the ordinary J

Subject: [OzMOSS] Teched BDC presentation

Hello everyone,

I thought I may try something new this year, and ask people what they
expect from the presentation before I start working on it.

I am presenting with an American MVP about the BDC - a level 400
presentation. What would you want to see in that presentation?

I am leaving this as an open question because I do not want to limit
your thinking - just shoot me what would make you happy to see. After
all, the people in this list are the most likely to come see the
presentation!

Thanks!
