What is your complete use case? Is this for internal only, business use? If so, what's wrong with the current integration with communicator (presence, click to chat, etc)?
Most offices set communicator into the launch list so everyone in the org should have the thick client running already, so having yet another place to "chat" is confusing to users. Are you simply looking for a "who is looking at this page currently" style grouping? (eg more of a "shoutbox") ? If this is internet use then OCS doesn't enter into it at all, follow other advice with the live messenger SDK.
