For those of you considering migrating from Visual SourceSafe to TFS this is one of the questions you might be asked.
 
Keyword expansion is what happens when you have special "keywords" in your source files like $Author $History and $Version. In VSS when you checkin a file it expands those keywords to their actual values.
 
This is handy if say, you have *.asp files sitting on a web server and want to know what version they are.
