Looking at some stuff at Tech Ed 2007 gave me an idea. Its might be a really simple thing that could have some very nice consequences. I'd be interested to know what people here think.
Most of you would know that TFS Source Management can be connected directly to SQL Server Management Studio (via the MSSCCI Provider) so that changes to your database objects can be managed via TFS. In other words you have a full change history in TFS for every change to the DB, ability to enforce check-in policy, ability to attach custom work-items to record the configuration changes, etc. You can get the same advantages via the DB Pro Edition of VS2005, but I like the fact that its available to "pure DBAs" (or users of Management Studio), versus just DB Developers. I've been reading about IIS7 and how it rationalises the use of config files - no more meta-base, less files, different separation of config files, etc. So how about MS provide a MSSCCI interface against IIS - that way all changes to IIS can be managed with version history, work-items, etc. How good would that be for developers and infrastructure people?
