I remember tackling this exact issue. I posted about it here a while back:

Subject: [OzTFS] Migrating from Workgroup to domain with display name change
[Sec: Unclassified]

Hi all,

I have to migrate a TFS 2005 SP1 environment from a workgroup installation
to a new server in a domain. That process is well documented and I've
successfully followed the steps described here:
<http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms404869(VS.80).aspx>
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms404869(VS.80).aspx

The additional complication that I am facing is that the displayname of the
users have changed. They were workgroupServerName\john.smith but need to
change to domainName\smithj. That is the part I am struggling with. I
can't seem to get tfsadminutil sid to make that change as the display names
are different. Is there a switch or something that I am missing?

Googling around I see reference to a tool called TFSWitDisplayNames, but I'm
not sure that quite solves my problem. It looks like it will change the
display name, but I need to change the domainname and the display name. I
haven't been able to get hold of this tool yet, as it is only available from
MS support and I can't locate anyone in this department who is authorised to
contact MS support.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Richard
