Instead of using the following as the rule for the field:
<ALLOWEDVALUES>
<VALIDUSERS />
</ALLOWEDVALUES>
Use:
<SUGGESTEDVALUES>
<VALIDUSERS />
<SUGGESTEDVALUES>
This will still give you the drop-down but the validation won't force
the selected entry to be a valid user.

Hi
I need to customize my task work item type to have a new field
called Requested By. This field should be a combo box, which can act
either as a text box and a drop down. The drop down needs to be
populated with values from the VALIDUSERS list. For people that are not
part of the VALIDUSERS list, we need to be able to enter the name
manually via the text box.
Any ideas?
