It is possible that the binaries for the project in question are already built and exist in the bin directories of the projects that reference it but not because of a project dependency (i.e., each compile doesn't actually build the other project and bring across the output). In this case, you have the files locally in the bin directories of the other projects, but the build server won't get them on compilation.
First thing to check is that it does successfully build locally by doing a clean and full rebuild of the solution. After the clean and before the rebuild, make sure all the binaries are removed from the bin directories of all the projects. If there is a project dependency problem, a clean may not remove the binaries that are not specifically related to the associated project. After the rebuild, check the bin directories again to ensure that the binaries are brought across to the other projects. We have a multi-project solution, with project to project dependencies. There are seven projects, with one reference no other projects, and all other projects referencing it. When you build this solution locally through vs2008, it works fine, but when it is build through TFS with Team Build, it build the projects in the wrong order, and fails, as the project that is referenced by all others is not built first. The solutions dependencies are set up correctly, I've even set <BuildSolutionsInParallel>false</BuildSolutionsInParallel> in the TFSBuild.proj file. I've also tried recreating the solution file, all without luck so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
