Happy Sunday Afternoon! I am a read-aloud fan! I read aloud to kids as often as I can. As support person without a class of my own, my teacehrs know all they have to do is ask me to read to their kids--and I'm there. I've seen Dr. Allen many times and one of the things I have learned from her is to put my read-alouds on transparencies. That way the kids can focus on them if they need to. It is a good bridge between the read-aloud and shared reading.
Is anyone out there using Dr. Allen's new collaboration with recorded books? It is called Plugged in to Reading. it is very cool! It teaches teachers to move from shared reading to literature circles while all the time promoting independent reading. It might help your teachers see the bridges and that all parts of a balanced literacy program are important especialy for struggling readers.
