You used to be able to locate Fry online and type in a passage.  Thing about
Fry, it also considers the length of the sentences but does not take into
considerations other reader supports such as prior knowledge, font size,
graphic support, etc.  In other words, either way--grains of salt, grains of
salt. 

I have found it helpful with my boys (sons, not students) to have their
computer show Fry, because in some simple way, it gives them some feedback
on revision.  My son was writing a book for first grade, and it helped to
know he was way over their heads...
