How about setting a purpose for reading? >From Cris Tovani's book "I Read It But I Don't Get It" - page 24-26 "Purpose is Everything" - Paraphrasing: The passage is about 2 boys who skipped school to go to one of their houses. This boy gives a tour of the house. After all have read the paragraphs, they are to circle what they think is important. Then they use a colored highlighter with the direction to mark what a thief would find important. Then a different highlighter with what a prospective home buyer might think is important.
It's important to establish a purpose for reading, since as readers we take different things away from what we read. ----- Original Message ----- From: "William Forsyth" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, March 12, 2007 1:24 PM Subject: [LIT] staff development > Does anyone have any ideas for a quick 30 minute activity for staff > development using a reading strategy for middle school teachers 5-8? > _______________________________________________ > The Literacy Workshop ListServ http://www.literacyworkshop.org > > To unsubscribe or modify your membership please go to > http://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/options/lit_literacyworkshop.org. > > Search the LIT archives at http://snipurl.com/LITArchive > _______________________________________________ The Literacy Workshop ListServ http://www.literacyworkshop.org To unsubscribe or modify your membership please go to http://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/options/lit_literacyworkshop.org.
