I am not aware of this program, but how wise of you to search for accurate info from passionate teachers of literacy here on this listserv!
May I follow suit by posing a similar question about which I NEED THE DIRT....I teach in TX, there is a rumor afoot that our State Board of Ed is clandestinely plotting to move the state toward something similar to Hirsch's Core Knowledge, with an emphasis on basic skills taught at specific times. An email from one of the board members floating about states that we need to do away with critical thinking, problem solving and creativity/thinking-based curriculum because we "owe it to our students" to fill their head with KNOWLEDGE.... Doe anyone use Hirsch's Core Knowledge in your state or district? If so, are you able within this framework to implement Best Practices, such as independent reading, Readers' Workshop and Writing Workshop? I would like to be able to share info with colleagues and administrators and local school board members from an informed view. Please advise. Thanks! "The world of books is the most remarkable creation of man. Nothing else that he builds ever lasts. Monuments fall; nations perish; civilizations crumble and die out;...But in the world of books are volumes that have seen this happen again and again and yet live on. Still young, still as fresh as the day they were written, still telling men's hearts of the hearts of men centuries dead."--Clarence Day Melinda Hawkins 5th Grade LA/SS McCulloch Intermediate School Highland Park ISD (214) 780-2325 [EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________ The Literacy Workshop ListServ http://www.literacyworkshop.org To unsubscribe or modify your membership please go to http://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/options/lit_literacyworkshop.org.
