I agree with those of you who said that canned materials do not work.  We 
started this program years ago with Soar to Success.  The students were bored 
to tears and we discovered that through using a combination of teaching 
strategies, using good, rich text and working in small groups we would have 
better success.  We tried this year to use the remediation program as their 
primary language arts, rather than pull them out of electives, so we had to 
incorporate all state standards, etc.  We based our grouping on the RIT bands 
from MAP testing.  Things have gone smoothly and we have seen some strong 
gains, but we have problems with teachers who want to keep their students "on 
team" and who don't want to teach in small groups.  We are trying to work with 
them to help them see the value of small grouping, but it has been an uphill 
battle with several.  If you have used RIT band groupings, are doing something 
creative with MAP results, etc.  I'd love to hear about that, also.
