I agree with those of you who said that canned materials do not work. We started this program years ago with Soar to Success. The students were bored to tears and we discovered that through using a combination of teaching strategies, using good, rich text and working in small groups we would have better success. We tried this year to use the remediation program as their primary language arts, rather than pull them out of electives, so we had to incorporate all state standards, etc. We based our grouping on the RIT bands from MAP testing. Things have gone smoothly and we have seen some strong gains, but we have problems with teachers who want to keep their students "on team" and who don't want to teach in small groups. We are trying to work with them to help them see the value of small grouping, but it has been an uphill battle with several. If you have used RIT band groupings, are doing something creative with MAP results, etc. I'd love to hear about that, also. Thanks to all who responded.
