WHITE SOCKS ONLY is a great book told by a grandmother who is telling a story to her granddaughter about when she had to drink from a separate drinking fountain because of her color. It starts out in the present until she starts to tell the story. Adolescents really enjoy this book, as well.

I know the novel Where the Red Fern Grows does a good job, but I want a picture book.
