How about an individual (or group) porject where they research gangs and gang affiliation and the effects of gang affiliation on families, friends, society, etc. Maybe they can create a public service announcement (commercial) about not joining a gang.
The can research fashion and idols of the 50's...madras shirts, hair gel, elvis, swing dance, Paul Newman... Maybe have a fashion show from the 50's and choriograph the show to music from the 50's and describe the clothes using slang from the 50's.
