it's interesting that you mention the framework, may, because i've been looking closely at them to determine if i can use them. it almost seems the reading and la teacher should be interchangeable, teach the same things, because the state combines reading and writing--and we seperate it.
at this point, i'm looking through the frameworks, trying to find strands of reading i can pull out of the units and still keep my classroom the same, the reading workshop model. for example, the narrative part isn't going to be a problem, but i'm wondering how to incorporate memoir into it. so we read the novel holes, then write a memoir? i'm thinking that i can point out the elements in reaidng and relate them to writing, then let the writing teacher struggle with the actual written memoir:) i can't help but think if reading and la could work and plan together, that our teaching would be much more effective. heck! it'd probably be easier. we can still choose our text, and the mapping is already done; they even have some good tasks, which, if you are like me, you're always looking for something to grade. please, let's continue this dialogue, because i'd love to know how your plans are going. we can help each other this year. caroline _______________________________________________ The Literacy Workshop ListServ http://www.literacyworkshop.org To unsubscribe or modify your membership please go to http://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/options/lit_literacyworkshop.org.
