Hello, I love those bare books! They are awesome, and a great idea to give as gifts for any age! The company were giving them away at a conference I was at a few years ago, and I haven't been able to find them anywhere. Thanks for the website, Shelley!
Kim Connecticut P.S. Shelley, aren't you excited that NCTE is in NYC this year?!! -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, July 07, 2007 10:59 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [LIT] OT...what does a soon-to-be Kindergarten student need? Lynn - You can get a number of things for her backpack such as primary pencils, primary notebook with special solid and dashed lines, appropriate scissors, a glue stick and a small pad or spiral notebook for drawing pictures at any time and making "notes" the way adults do. I got my grandchildren a 3x5 or 4x6 index card box with alphabet dividers so they could cut out pictures and put them in the correct sections. As they moved into grade one, the same box was used to hold the words they learned to read. In addition, I have ordered many times from a company called Treetop Publishing at _http://www.barebooks.com/_ (http://www.barebooks.com/) They sell hard-covered blank books in a number of different sizes and formats - horizontal, vertical, board books, big books, spiral bound books and books with pen and ink drawings (flowers, animals, sports) on the front. They also sell blank puzzles, calendars and game boards along with game cards, spinners and pieces. All of their materials are high quality and inexpensively priced. I used them years ago in my kindergarten and was pleased with how sturdy they were. My grandchildren have created many original stories and pictures using them. Enjoy having a grandchild in kindergarten - it will be a year filled with wonder.
