Pam writes: I forgot to mention to use the link Listening/Viewing/Speaking. It
shows a completely planned unit with standards, EQ, etc.?

Check out this URL: http://publish.learningfocused.com/262004

It goes to unit maps that were put together using FL state standards, backwards
design and essential questions. Maybe seeing one done would help working
through
the steps. Just click on one of the units on the left side or if you wanted to
see a unit in your subject area, click up in the upper left corner on ??? -
golly I've forgotten - something like Pasco Curriculum - it takes you to all
grade levels and subject areas that maps have been planned out on.

Here's how I think this through- I would start with your state standards.
Cluster a few that would work together, since it's impossible to teach every
standard in isolation (at least this is true for my state). Then think what
knowledge and skills do your students need to know and be able to do to meet
the standards? Think of the most effective way to assess their knowledge. (I
rarely use multiple choice tests.) Create an assessment and a rubric so you
CAN assess it (I use the state rubric: exceeds, meets, approaches and falls
far below) Then make sure your instruction matches the assessment. You will
probably need to scaffold your lessons depending on the complexity of the
standard. I think of it as a spiral rather than getting from point A to
point B.
