I was thinking about teaching the elements of fiction with glaringly obvious examples. I figured nothing was better than The Wizard of Oz. I was surprised when I surveyed the class and I had a bunch of kids who have never seen or read it! It's been so long...should I read the Frank Baum version or watch the movie. I am leaning toward the movie because of time constraints but I don't want to miss the unique writing of Baum. Perhaps excerpts with the film? Additionally, I have a gifted student who has recently read Wicked...perhaps she could do a compare and contrast...What do you think?
