I attended a workshop with Bruce Coville and James Howe at NCTE and they
offered these EASY suggestions:

Photocopy the passage you plan to use.

One one copy, line through any words like said, asked, etc. with the
exception of those words linked to action, like "she said, walking out the
door."

With different color highlighters and multiple script copies, now highlight
for each part, one part per copy and include your narrator.

Now, concentrate on the elements of theater.
