I teach in a K-8 building, but we have a "separate" middle school. We just split the two, so instead of Language Arts, we now have Reading Exploration and Writing Strategies. In Kansas we have to cover the 4 text types and writing types, so it seemed to fit. We are teaching them to explore the types of reading and write for different purposes.
