I would agree. Todd Strasser has donated part of the profits from the
book to gun control charities and he puts lots of pro-gun control
statistics in the footnotes that are found throughout the book. I used
the book several years ago with honors 8th graders who really loved it.
One even remarked, "This book should be required reading for all 8th
graders." I would be more concerned with the reaction of parents who
have not read the book but who may respond fearfully to the title. I
think it's a great and important book to share with students.
Good luck!
Kathy

My 8th graders, both boys and girls, who have read this book have really
liked it. They seemed to bring away the message that guns are dangerous.
Another great, but very different, book with a message in this realm is
The Rifle by Gary Paulsen.

Has anyone read Give a Boy a Gun ? I'm interested in reading this with
9th graders, low reading level, but I'm concerned about the dangerous
messages about gun violence I may be passing along. How has this book
been received by students?

Primarily Latino and African American-- basic/proficient in language
arts. Many are interested in Ann Schrafe type drama even though the
books are to low for them reading wise.
