Best lesson from writers workshop this year...

Lessons in a Song

For this activity and writing project students conducted an interview of
someone from a different generation about a song from the interviewee's teen
years that stood out to them and helped define their teen years. The person
they interviewed than in turn interviewed the student using the same
criteria. Students recorded their interview as a pod cast, wrote about their
experience and created a keynote, imovie or power point about the
interviewee, the music of the time period a bit about the history of that
time and then compared it to their own experience. It was incredible and the
connections made, the relationships enhanced and the realization that music
and lyrics can help define a generation were outstanding. An example: One of
my students is an incredible award-winning dancer. She is amazing to watch
and I love her style and energy. Imagine how cool it was when she
interviewed her grandfather about the swing era and learned about his ove
of music and dance. He even taught her a few moves and she actaully danced
with him while listening to his music. She was blown away by the experience
which provided a connection to her dear grandfather she never knew existed.
She came in with wonderful photos and realized while she was a huge hip hop
fan she suddenly had found a new love; Swing Dancing.

And yes...I have a write up!

What was one of your best experiences this year
