Your project sounds so meaningfully engaging!

I don't know if anyone else has attended Schlecty's WOW (Working on the Work)
conference, but the concept he offers for transforming (NOT REFORMING) schools
is for teachers to do just what you've described with this project--Rather than
PLANNING work, Schlecty suggests DESIGNING work based on student needs and
student feedback.

The only reason I am mentioning this is I have just learned about receiving not
only student feedback regarding process and product, but offering a tool for
students to reflect on their level of ENGAGEMENT regarding the work...

An example:

5 stars--I could do this every day!

4 stars--I did my best because I want a good grade, class rank, etc.
(Strategic Compliance)

3 stars--I did the work because I knew this counted for a large percentage of
my grade (or whatever other "consequence to avoid")-- (Ritual Compliance)

2 Stars--Boy am I glad that's over! (Retreatism)

along with self-measuring individual levels of engagement for this project/unit
of study, I ask them to write a few thoughts about the level of engagement
indicated and suggestions for how this could have been more engaging.

"If you want to build a ship, don't herd people together to collect wood and
don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the
endless immensity of the sea." (Antoine de Saint-Exupery)

My students are just finishing up a group project in which they created
found poems for Veteran's Day. I would like to get some feedback from the
students concerning the project and how they felt about it. Does anyone
have any generic questions you use to gain feedback from your students?

Thanks in advance,

Sherri
