How about giving them a manilla folder and have them fill it with things
that tell about them, their summer, their interests, etc. Give them a week
and then have share day the second week of school. They can put their
folders around the room and people can visit them, "share day". Maybe some
juice/cookies(fruit) would be nice too!

Subject: [LIT] What I did this summer ( and all that Jazz!)

I always hated those, "What I did this summer..." essays, I still want to
know what my kids were up to during their break. Since, I look for different
ways to open our year, I am trying to think of a better, relevant and fun
activity. Maybe... a faux Facebook ( NOT online) page would be cool...They
could include all their highlights, pictures, trips, game scores, what have
you. What do you think folks? Any ideas are welcome!
