IMHO: I would like to point out, in a friendly way, that non-techy people may have to learn some techy stuff to be able to protect themselves. It's like when you start driving a car, you have to learn some automobile-techy stuff to be able to enjoy safely the new tool; to have even more fun and ride a motorcycle safely, you have to learn to pay attention to even more techy stuff. That's the way a lot of the world seems to work. And think about the idea of "protection". That can mean very different things to different people. My friend with children doesn't care very much if his computer is zombied and used to send out spam, as long as his kids aren't exposed to internet p*rn; another friend doesn't have kids, but worries a lot about anyone getting into his computer and sending out his business information somewhere; and so on. Custom security software, like most custom software, is complex and costly to design so it will satisfy the buyer's specific personal idea of "protection". Any of us ordinary folks, who can't afford custom security software, really do have to do our own thinking, helped by forums like this and other information we can find, about how best to use off-the-shelf software features, whatever they might be, to satisfy our personal needs. Cheers. :-) _______________________________________________ Littlesnitch-talk mailing list [email protected] http://at.obdev.at/mailman/listinfo/littlesnitch-talk
