Unless someone can provide a very convincing argument otherwise, I think we need to stick with the existing postgres, as we don't have time to test a new version with all the other dependencies.

It is possible to compile pgRouting with PostgreSQL 8.4/PostGIS 1.4
but it wasn't tested well. I would better stay with good old (but well
tested) packages if it is possible.
