On a fresh xubuntu 9.10 installation (32bit) using a regular :
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade all works (regular virgin linux without osgeo live installation) the VirtualBox ( .vdi ) disk image in bzip compression has size of 1Gb, what about switch from vmware to more opensource vbox ? Alex, i can upload the vbox image to save you from instalation time, if we want give a try to vbox. Ciao, Massimo.
