on the RC3 disk I have here, I opened GeoPublisher
created a new english atlas
dragged various SHP files into the resources area, but no data, and no
error msgs
The GeoPublisher web site indicates that 1.4 something is stable
though I notice that the LiveDVD install is done from repo...
perhaps a ticket?
low priority I imagine..

on another note.. sometime in the last few minutes, the menus have
disappeared from my RC3 menu bar
the only ones left are the Firefox Launcher and the Help Launcher..
not sure how to look into that further...
