a local TMS cache would have to be established (MapTiler or
gdal2tiles.py), put somewhere the local apache could get at, and the URLs
updated. but that consumes disc space which in part defeats the entire
purpose of the program.

... in the end you can't take the web- out of a web-mapping tool, ...
