In the latest log file I have seen, the beta menu is not created (there's an 
error message) because the Xubuntu menu configuration has changed from 9.10 to 
10.04, so as Cameron says, we should add our sh scripts among the non-beta sh 
scripts.

I suggest that we should treat beta and stable software the same way in 
the install scripts.

Ie, install_qgis_mapserver.sh  should be installed in the /bin directory 
rather than bin/beta_software/

We will distinguish between beta and stable software in documentation 
which ranks the maturity of software as per:
