Scott,
3 to 8 Meg should be ok.

We don't have Wine installed on OSGeo-Live (yet). How much extra space would wine include?

If your linux version is stable, that would be preferable. Do you think the linux version will be stable by the end of Jan 2011? (We don't want new users to run into any bugs or crashes while testing applications on OSGeo-Live).

Scott,
We have started the build cycle for our next OSGeo-Live release, and I'm interested to know whether we should be including XCSoar on it, and if so, which version (noting that we are space constrained).

What is the status of your android version?
Is it stable enough yet?

We haven't packaged android apps on the OSGeo-Live DVD yet, but there is a strong interest in Open Source mobile apps, and I think it would be a valuable to have the android apps included if they work ok.

Questions I have is:
* I assume we'd need to include an android emulator?

No we should be able to provide you with the unix build. It is not as reliable as the Windows one via WINE. There is now PC, Linux, Android and PocketPC variants. Do you have WINE already?

* How much space will an android emulator add to the OSGeo-Live?

Nothing if we use Linux version.

* Will an android emulator running inside a virtual machine, or booted in Live mode be fast enough to be usable?

I will get some space figures together now. It should not be much.

LINUX DEB (working on Debian and Ubuntu) is 3.6MB compressed. Not sure the installed size.

Windows EXE (you don't need to install it, and it runs under WINE) is 2.0MB

Then data, a basic example would be about 4.3MB, but we could easily go smaller by providing a small region.

How does that all sound?

So lets guess and say that somewhere between 3MB and 8MB.

Scott
