Stocks Slide 4% in Final Minutes After Seesaw Day
Wall Street retreated in a volatile session Friday as
investors absorbed another wave of downbeat economic news and
found little comfort in hints that an additional interest
rate cut might be possible. The Dow Jones industrial average
fell more than 337.94 points, or 3.8 percent, to 8,497.31.
The broader Standard & Poor's 500-stock index was down 4.1
percent, or 38 points.
