I don't think the "commentary" issue of major concern.....one persons complaint, who by the way complains about every list he is on, should not be of concern. The debates that have been on this list as well as the postings are and do produce some excellent thought provoking debates on and off list. One persons complaints because he wants to run every or feels he is the world moderator does not and should not be a factor Now the spam is another thing but as I said last week it can be moderated easily with very little T and E This list is an excellent source of quick news and that individual who complained a few days back can hit the delete button more quickly than voicing his opinion. Hopefully a little common sense will prevail. These list have their ups and downs but overall and for the long haul they gave paid off There may a silent minority who complain to you and the other moderators but that same group are not regular posters or have every posted once so as far as I'm concerned those of that do have more of a say so than their voice.

In light of the fact that we're able to draw very deep in near real-time - and in the interesting of preserving and expanding the CrisisAlert community, we are proposing significant changes to CrisisAlert. 1] As of Sunday, November 30th at midnight, we are going to 're-boot' CrisisAlert. This will involve the complete turnover of the membership of the list - everyone will need to re-apply. 2] In order to be considered for membership on CrisisAlert, people will have to provide a brief bio [55 words or less] that will be reviewed by the Moderators. 3] Any spamming or abuse will result in immediate banishment from the list. 4] The commentary issue could be solved (even facilitated) by a parallel mailing list, one that is designed to go to a standard email account (instead of an SMS or pager system). We're going to take a hard look at that concept over the next few weeks. -- Posted By Breaking News to Break News at 11/29/2008 11:05:00 PM
