Subject: [DailyBrief] Arkansas Update

>From Arkansas VOAD and Ron Crane my counterpart at the University of
Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS):

1. The Mountain View area is seriously in need of bottled water.
There is a boil order and water supplies are low. The Methodist Church
is feeding lots of people and that is where the water would need to be
delivered. Does anyone know of any group that has water available or can
get water to Mountain View? If so, please have them contact John at
870-213-8981. (FEMA, ADEM and Roger Elliot with RC responded to this
request and is delivering 10 trailers of MREs and 12 Trailers of water,
probably with delivery to ADEM or another agency. Communities should
route their requests through their county OEM/Judge to ADEM to keep from
duplicating efforts).

2. Shelters are also in bad need of disposable paper goods and
request and offers of help should be directed to the Arkansas Department
of Emergency Management.

3. NWS LR reporting possibility of more winter weather starting
Monday but may be limited to flurries. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

4. Power has been restored to some areas but is still spotty at
best.

5. Little Rock area hospitals continued to offer assistance to
affected hospitals in NWAR in various forms to include but not limited
to: radios programmed on the Arkansas Wireless Information Network
(AWIN) for interoperability with local, state and federal agencies and a
large supply of linen.

6. Amateur radio (especially HF) is being used to make contact with
areas that still don't have phones or power. This has worked very well.

7. The official SITREP from the Arkansas Department of Emergency
Management can be seen at the following link:
ftp://www.adem.arkansas.gov/SitSum/January%2027%202009%20Ice%20storm.htm
<ftp://www.adem.arkansas.gov/SitSum/January 27 2009 Ice storm.htm>

I will continue to send updates throughout this crisis as I receive
them.

Thanks,

Doug
