In southeast Amsterdam, the area around an IKEA furniture store has
been cordoned off. The threat was made at approximately 9 o'clock on
Thursday morning. Shops that were open have been evacuated. Other shops
have been ordered to stay closed. An IKEA representative has said the
threats were not directed specifically at the store. In December 2002,
explosives were found in IKEA stores in Amsterdam and the town of
Sliedrecht. This led to all IKEA stores in the country being closed for
two days.
