The US Coast Guard issued a notice stating that it is withdrawing its proposed rulemaking that would have required owners of non-planing recreational houseboats with propeller-driven propulsion located aft of the transom to either install a propeller guard or use a combination of other devices to avoid propeller injuries. The Coast Guard has determined that the costs of this proposal would be much higher than anticipated. Alternative methods for protecting persons from propeller injuries will now be considered. 72 Fed. Reg. 59064 (October 18, 2007).
