Dear Walter
Just a footnote, to reply to you, always gets my goat to be talked about in
3rd person. I agree that Denmark is nothing special, people are what people
are, and anyplace can be wonderful, seems it depends more on your own
attitude than the attitude of the ones you visit.
I must say though that I feel you are misjudging me a bit and that you jump
to a few conclusions. :-)

I have seen the Midwest, and probably more states than most Americans. I
have criss crossed America for 3 years in a motorhome, 80 000 miles of
American soil passed under my wheels. I have a pretty good idea of what goes
on in this country. I have worked as volunteer in various downtown skidrow
centers, mostly poor black neighborhoods, worked as a counselor / pastor in
several county jails in Georgia as well, for a 6 month period. I have also
been socializing with some of the most prominent city leaders in different
cities, because of my involvement with volunteer work, among them the past
Police chief of Miami.

At the time I was traveling with my family of 10 children 6 of them girls,
and I also carried a shotgun as well as a 30/30 Winchester.

I think I understand the issues, and if asked, would be in support of ones
right to self defense, in a country with such enormous proliferation of
firearms.

My argument was regarding CRUISING with weapons, which is an entirely
different ball of wax, wouldn't you agree. There are some severe penalties
if one tries to circumvent the law, hiding weapons, and I just do not think
the risk is worth the effort and inconvenience. Cruising is a calculated
risk, and I do not find the danger so extreme outside of the USA as to
warrant arming oneself.

We are all a product of our upbringing, that was my point. Americans and
Europeans as well.

I appreciate your mail
Regards John

Well, Merrill, there are other places that are nice, I wouldn't want to
immigrate to DK.
Way back when I used to be stationed in Flensburg, just across the border
from Denmark,
I thought it was a nice country, Mermaid, Tivoli and all, but nothing above
the norm.
(I wore a white hat, I was one of the good guys ;)
John judges the US from a viewpoint of Florida or whatever, not exactly the
heartland
of the country. Maybe if he experienced the Midwest he would think
differently.

Walter

PS: PR has one of the strictest gun laws, but murder rates are higher than
New York City,
everybody seems to have a gun, mostly because of the drug traffic. I keep a
loaded S&W
in my bedroom in Illinois, but have no guns in PR - go figure... maybe it's
because of the
state of mind (say:manana) makes you feel more at ease.

Still trying to find a snow shovels in the Virgins (US, British or Spanish)

John you must be Danish-

I would love to move to Denmark- but their immigration laws are so
incredibly restrictive..It is a far safer country than any of the Americas
(yes, even Canada) and maybe you would have a different perspective if lived

here. Just check out the crime stats. So in a sense, you are correct- if
everyone could move to Denmark, no one would need guns. But alas, Denmark
won't let us.

One thing that I find funny is that your use of the term 'European.' You
lump everyone together as if they were a homogeneous cultural group. You
must mean only Norway, Sweden and Denmark, because many other Europeans are
decidedly undiplomatic, uncompromising, and even downright volatile, which
is exactly why I like them.

John you must be Danish-

I am and I made no secret of that, this is no revelation, why do I feel like
this is a cheap point :-)

I would love to move to Denmark- but their immigration laws are so
incredibly restrictive..

And so...this has nothing to do with any point of discussion!!!

It is a far safer country than any of the Americas (yes, even Canada) and
maybe you would have a different perspective if lived here.

I do live HERE I presently live in Miami, Overtown to be exact....not
exactly a fine neighborhood...and!!

Just check out the crime stats. So in a sense, you are correct- if everyone
could move to Denmark, no one would need guns. But alas, Denmark won't let
us.

No need for sarcasm, no need for putdowns, what has Denmark's immigration
policy got to do with the subject matter? Explain please

One thing that I find funny is that your use of the term 'European.'

You lump everyone together as if they were a homogeneous cultural group.

Yea that may seem confusing, yet still I find the most "volatile" European
better suited to diplomacy and problem solving than any average
American...but that just ticks you off doesn't it :-)

You must mean only Norway, Sweden and Denmark, because many other Europeans
are decidedly undiplomatic, uncompromising, and even downright volatile,
which is exactly why I like them.

Well you had me fooled....sounds like the opposite to me sounds like you
pretty much love those who think like you, ie Americans in any case it is a
strange statement.....you like volatile people? hmmmm no comprende, would
that mean you dislike evenkeeled calm people..hmmm Gotta think about that

Dear Merril and all

I will conclude my points, by saying that I stand by my opinion so just let
it be that ..my opinion. I do not claim to have the ultimate truth...I might
be wrong, it would not be the first time but still its my opinion.

I see no reason to keep answering posting and personal mails defending AN
OPINION. Get a grip folks :-)

Thanks to all who answered my posts, some who apparently hate me for having
a point of view different to theirs...got lots of mails on this one, and
thanks to the ones who understand and agree as well.

My goal is to live peaceably with the people in the culture where I reside.
To do some good and get my boat ready to go "sailaway" to live with the
people I really like to live with ha , palm trees and white beaches please
please please

Just kiddin..thanks to all of you who so regularly help others, seek to
understand and embrace differences, welcome to the cruising world community

Thanks especially to all those who kept calm and just asked and or
communicated. Their points of view.

Regards John
