I just Googled "battery explosions" and found lots of reports of battery
explosions. Most of them have to do with laptop batteries and such, there
were also reports about flooded cell batteries too.

The first one was about a room-sized UPS in a large building that did have
a computer center that had since departed leaving the UPS room still
operating. The vent system was turned on by a hydrogen sensor but for some
reason unknown, did not operate. (we, wiser engineer as we are, connect
our vent fans to a voltage sensitive switch rather than wait for a hydrogen
buildup, don't we?) A hydrogen alarm had been sounding for three days
before the explosion. (we, wiser captains, investigate every suspicious
event immediately, don't we?)

When the hydrogen did finally find a source of ignition the explosion blew
the roof off and knocked down numerous interior walls. Fortunately, there
was no one in the building and no injuries.
