If you are not plugged into the grid, you are definitely missing out. When it comes to solar panels, the more the better. I have seven 120 watt units and I wish I had more as my energy use goes up. Before I got the satellite antenna, receiver, and 32 LCD TV the 840 watts of solar and the two KISS wind generators could keep up unless I had two cloudy/windless days in a row in which I would have to top up the house batteries using the genset.
I have a large wheelhouse top where I have mounted my PV panels, but most boats with aft cockpits make an arch on the stern that is combination dinghy davits, antenna farm and solar panel platform. Some incorporate wind generator masts with this arch.
