REPLY Oh Norm, you evidently have not learnt the new business speak currently in use. World Class means its designed one place, (for cheapest possible part content), then fabricated in some other place where labor rates is dirt cheap or less, and the people doing the assembly rarely has any notion of the technical details of the product they are making. Which means they can't even verify they are doing it right. World class means the product is made consistent with globalization of the market place. In other words, it's made as a disposable product. Except for consumables that require frequent replacement you cannot get spare parts. forget about getting back to the designer. More often than not, that person was a contract worker and now long gone. China manufacturing is usually done as a batch lot per contract. When the production batch is done, the factory sets up to make another product. They do not have inventory from which to get spares. The jelly bean counters have decided this is the leanest and meanest cost effective way to maximize their profit margin while giving the consumer what appears to be their wish. As a test, try asking if the box stores carry replacement consumables for the products they sell. Sometimes they do but more often they don't. The consumer product comes with a limited number of replacement consumables usually enough to last 6 months to a year of "average use". By the time you go back to get more, the model you have is "discontinued" and replacement parts for current production do not fit. You are advised to buy the new and upgraded better model. Industrial products which are expected to generate a big revenue stream in sales of consumable parts are handled a bit differently. To prevent you from cross listing a cheaper replacement part they often resort to including some little detail that makes substituting another brand impossible. Welcome to globalized, world class exploitation of the masses. <VBG> Arild _______________________________________________ Liveaboard mailing list [email protected] To adjust your membership settings over the web http://www.liveaboardnow.org/mailman/listinfo/liveaboard To subscribe send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] The archives are at http://www.liveaboardnow.org/pipermail/liveaboard/ To search the archives http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] The Mailman Users Guide can be found here http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/mailman-member/index.html
