I leave mine on scan mostly for entertainment. Downeast lobstermen have a
sense of humor and are always talking amongst themselves. Add in the shore
side conversations with their wives and you have a full day of of laughter.

Although Bob doesn't like it when I do it, I have the radio set to scan.
Depending on where I am, it scans 16 and maybe also 13 and whatever channel
we are using for a working channel.  So if someone actually calls us on -
say channel 71, or if we are talking to a marina on 68, then I would be
using a working channel and would not be monitoring 16.  Otherwise the unit
would be scanning and would be monitoring 16 as well as whatever other
channels I have on the scan.
