There was just a case a few weeks ago where USCG rescued 3 people from
a sailboat 200 miles south of Galveston. After the rescue they were
too low on fuel to return to base so they refueled on an offshore oil
platform. Even if they have a theoretical mission radius of 200 miles
they can burn a lot of fuel hovering at the rescue site.
