  Subject: [Liveaboard] Kite flying

I like to muse about far out stuff sometimes and the thread about kites
has me off again.

I have thought it would be a cool experiment to use a tough kite, maybe
built with a light metal and some Tyvek, in heavy weather, (of course only
if there is not much chance of lightning).
My idea is to float a some light radar reflectors off of it (and other
accessories) so that you would have something way up there that would give
long distance reflection to other vessels, and also make it possible to get
a VHF or other disposible homemade antenna up there where line of sight is
so important.

I came up with the wild idea about 30 years ago, but see some years ago
that a warning kite was put on the market that will float up a visual
distress symbol that would hopefully be visible over a longer distance...

Just a thought. All my rights reserved (and I have no liability if you
use the idea and fry your butt with a lightning strike while playing Ben
Franklin) but any reader of this post is free to use the ideas!!!! Has
anyone experimented with this type of idea in the past?
