This is so unbelievable I just had to pass it on. Recently my
Simpson Lawrence windlass needed a minor rebuild. I was directed to a
national chain for parts by Lewmar who evidently now owns the SL line. I
needed an oil seal, 2 external snap rings (stainless) and a Fleming. The
Fleming was the only piece that was proprietary. The other pieces are small
25mm shaft size. The prices were quoted as follows: Fleming $11, oil seal
$55 and snap ring (3 pc set) $66. Needless to say after I picked myself up
off the floor I ordered the Fleming and left. McMaster Carr had the snap
rings for $4.50 each and after crossing the obsolete number on the seal
quoted me $0.95 special order for the seal.
For my money I always try to order from www.hamiltonmarine.com as
they are helpful, knowledgeable and carry the "meat and Potatoes" in
addition to the fluff carried by the national chain.
