I had that problem with my AC pump when I foolishly followed the installation 
instructions in the manual.  They said that it should be in an inverted loop.  
That was wrong.  It should be plumbed up so that a bubble of air cannot be 
trapped in the line.  Doing this eliminates the requirement for "burping".

AC pumps are generally below water level and self primming unless they get an 
air bubble in the line and have to be burped.
