The SunDanzers (I have both a reefer and a freezer of the five cu/ft size)
are the direct opposite of "pretty complicated".

You just tie them down and plug them in. Much less complicated than an ice
box. No money drain for ice, no lugging ice, no drain sump and pump for
melted ice, no space devoted only to ice, no 100% humidity in the chill box
due to sublimating ice, plus the freezer unit keeps things frozen, like ice
cream, ice for drinks, and long term storage for food.

They are almost identical to a medium sized household chest style freezer,
but have 4.3" of insulation and a high efficiency compressor. Both the
evaporator and the condenser are tubes attached to the inside skin and the
outside skin respectively.

Ours have worked perfectly for several years with just routine defrosting
and cleaning. I run them off the 12VDC house buss which is supplied by
solar and wind power. I never measured it but I guess they use about 100
AH/day both together.
