I have had good results with double-sticky foam tape. It has surprising tenacity if it gets a good hold on a clean surface. And it can be removed later without scarring the wall.
For example, my two binocular boxes in the wheelhouse have held our watertight marine glasses and two VHF handhelds for a decade with no signs of quitting. If you clean the surfaces well (I use lacquer thinner, then denatured alcohol) so the glue has a good bond and does not let go during use, you may eventually have to use a crowbar to remove the object from the wall. In this case tape always parts in the foam, then the adhesive must be removed by scraping and using lacquer thinner. Another use is to put bits of it on objects that are being epoxied together to hold the objects together while the epoxy sets up.
