Hey all, We read the Island Packet List and saw an interesting story of how the City of Annapolis tries to control its anchor field, by forbidding anyone from flying the Island Packet Flag. Last year during the boat show the harbormaster threatened to kick anyone flying an IP flag out and boarded many boats and demanded flags be dropped. He claimed the City prohibited 'advertising' and this was advertising. It is an interesting issue. Could a city impose other restrictions as well. I hope not. Thought it would be interesting to other live aboards:
--ooOOOoo-- Have you seen the IPY store is now featuring the IP Battle Flags? I also have noticed that these flags are on sale now at a new price of…. $95….that is a deal. Why a Deal? Back when this entire “flag thing” started and IP first displayed them at the Annapolis boat show many years ago, I tried to get one. Back then, they did not sell the flag, so I hired the FLAG LADY to come over to the booth and look up at the flags, sketch it and make me one. She did, it costs me $150.00 and it turned out ½ the size of these. Then came the infamous “BATTLE of ANNAPOLIS 2007” which even included one international member from Canada risking his yacht as he “took one for the IP team” and boldly flew the IP flag during the 2007 boat show. This famous IP battle raged on for 3 days as the harbormaster pressed warnings and boarded IPs to take down these powerful IP flags. In the end, conceding victory to the town under pressures of eviction and being banned from using the Annapolis waters in the future, the battle flags were lowered and not displayed again from the mooring fields. (city rule, no advertising from boats on city moorings) If was after this infamous battle of napplis, that the IP Flags were made available to all via the factory. These flags are JUMBO in size and can be seen from the space shuttle! They are 5 feet wide and 9 feet long and when you host one, everyone comes over to see the packet. They know you are there. I have been flying ours in the South Complex of the Vero Beach City Marina and many people stop over to visit because they noticed the flag. Also, when someone asks me where we are, I simply point to the large gold flag. I fly this via a spare halyard and I can place it about 2-3 feet from the top of the mast depending on the wind direction. At anchor, it really works best as it streams back from the mast. IAs you can tell, really enjoy flying ours. So, now you have the full story, and I wanted to “PUSH” the flags, because I think I had a little bit to do with these being offered to the fleet. I also want to see the entire Annapolis Harbor filled up with IP flags someday, now that would be FUN! So…Take a look at the ships store, and you will find these on sale now for $95, not a bad deal for all the fun they provide. http://ipy.com/ShipsStore/ Hayden Cochran, Island Spirit IP35 [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://islandspirit35.blogspot.com --ooOOOoo-- Ed Kelly (& Sue Kelly) USSV Angel Louise - lying Brunswick, GA making final upgrades to head to So Caribe Our Skype Phone (202) 657-6357 Email: EdKelly ("at" symbol) netins.net Ed Kelly (& Sue Kelly) USSV Angel Louise - a Catalac catamaran Our Skype Phone (202) 657-6357 Email: EdKelly ("at" symbol) netins.net _______________________________________________ Liveaboard mailing list [email protected] To adjust your membership settings over the web http://www.liveaboardnow.org/mailman/listinfo/liveaboard To subscribe send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] The archives are at http://www.liveaboardnow.org/pipermail/liveaboard/ To search the archives http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] The Mailman Users Guide can be found here http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/mailman-member/index.html
