Silly people. A city can impose any restrictions it can get away with.
The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled that if a developer wants to build a house on your lot that will bring in more tax revenue than yours, you had better pack your bags because the cops will drag off anyone who stands in front of the bulldozer. It's official. Greed Rules over everything, including your home. Surely you know about Melbourne Florida and their anti-anchoring ordinance from the discussions on the list. Melbourne is only one of many attacking us. The people of the land hate us. Many people hate others to the degree that the others are different from themselves, and we are perceived to be vastly different from the land people. Taxes is a big issue to them, but more personal is the perceived freedom we have, much like Gypsies or Bums, while they are locked into compliance with the demands of their society. While Jan and I have escaped attack so far this season, our only liveaboard neighbor has not. He received a letter from a Florida government official declaring him in violation of several statutes and threatening arrest and impoundment of his vessel. (Bear in mind that impoundment is tantamount to destruction. The boat will be tied up somewhere with no security and shortly be stripped by the locals. I have seen it happen, to folks who had their sailboat stolen to smuggle drugs by the thieves. The boat was impounded as "evidence" by the cops and subsequently stripped by the locals in the boatyard where it was stored.) The "violations" cited in the letter applied to construction equipment, spud barges, tugs and so forth. When the cop showed up to arrest him my neighbor was armed with printouts of the actual laws that so obviously did not apply. Apparently he convinced the cop that he would look foolish carrying the attack further and that he and the writer of the letter might actually get into trouble. I wish I had recorded the whole story at our dinner party with him a few weeks ago. It was a disgusting example of the persecution of livaboards, but my neighbor, (Robbie Johnson, he has a boater's cookbook out) did prevail gloriously by confronting his attackers. I hope not. _______________________________________________ Liveaboard mailing list [email protected] To adjust your membership settings over the web http://www.liveaboardnow.org/mailman/listinfo/liveaboard To subscribe send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] The archives are at http://www.liveaboardnow.org/pipermail/liveaboard/ To search the archives http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] The Mailman Users Guide can be found here http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/mailman-member/index.html
